Simone Zaza?

Simone Zaza?

Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi has delivered a blistering critique of the club’s current situation, particularly targeting manager Thiago Motta, in a recent interview with Juventibus. Moggi’s comments paint a picture of a club in disarray, with particular emphasis on the coach’s shortcomings and the need for stronger leadership from sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
Moggi didn’t mince words when discussing Motta’s performance, stating, “I would have sent him home if I were Juventus’ director. The Juventus coach doesn’t want to be approached by anyone, but the club is missing.” He further added, “He’s a bit vain, he thinks he’s first and others are second.”
The former director was particularly incensed by Motta’s response to recent poor performances. After the PSV match, Moggi noted that while Locatelli admitted the team had played poorly, Motta insisted he would do everything the same way again. This attitude clearly irked Moggi, who declared, “If I were the coach, I would be ashamed, not the team. He should be ashamed of himself for the Empoli match.”
Moggi also touched on the role of sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, suggesting that the club needs to empower him more. “Thank goodness things seem to be unblocking, and Giuntoli is being appointed as the real director of Juventus, without being subordinate to anyone,” Moggi said.
He revealed that he had advised Giuntoli about the challenges of his new role: “Cristiano, in Naples you had De Laurentiis’ coverage, but at the moment you’re in a club where the President does other things, and you don’t have anyone telling you ‘well done,’ but you have those who can criticize you. You’re a man alone in command.”
Moggi’s assessment of Juventus’ current situation is dire. He describes Motta as “responsible for an inconceivable situation,” noting that while the team lacks balance and leaders, the coach often plays players out of position. He dismisses excuses about injuries, pointing out that “Juventus has lost points against teams they should have beaten.”
In Moggi’s view, “The coach’s errors have brought the team to these levels.” He urges Giuntoli to take a more active role, stating, “Giuntoli needs to raise his head from the pillow because he understands football.”
