The inside story what Klopp did after Edwards returned:
“Edwards had messaged Klopp to inform him about his new role after agreeing to return to the FSG fold and asked if they could meet up.
Klopp invited Edwards to his mansion house on Victoria Road in Formby and they talked for three hours about football. ‘I want this to work,’Klopp told him, ‘I want what comes after me to be a success. You can pick up the phone any time, night or day. I’m here to help and if staying out of the way helps then I’ll do that as well. I’ll be as involved as you want.’
The German coach went through the squad player by player giving his assessment of where he felt they were at. Edwards went away and told colleagues that he regarded the conversation as ‘priceless’.
Klopp subsequently met Hughes to answer all the questions he had about the current personnel and where improvements could be made. Internally, it was described as ‘the golden handover’.
‘No playing politics from Jurgen, just very humble,’ says one senior club figure. Klopp’s opinion wasn’t sought by either Edwards or Hughes on the pursuit of a new head coach but when he was informed about who would be taking over ahead of the news breaking publicly, he told them: ‘Smart choice! Good guy and I love how his team plays football.’”

“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.”
